    Civil Appellate Practice and Procedure (20619). 3 units. First-year civil procedure courses often provide students with only a brief introduction to civil appellate practice and procedure. This course is designed to build on, and expand upon, that introduction, offering an in-depth consideration of the following subjects, among others: the historical background, and non-inevitability of appeals; the constitutional and statutory bases of appellate jurisdiction; the law-making and error-correcting functions of appellate courts; and the respective roles that judges and litigants play in the appellate process.
