    Advanced Topics in Election Law (21259). 2 units. This class will be devoted to canvassing the major theoretical debates in the field of election law. Class readings will be drawn primarily from the works of legal scholars, political scientists, and political theorists. Several election law scholars will also present works-in-progress during the semester. The class should be of interest to anyone interested in developing expertise in the field or becoming an academic with an election law specialty. In lieu of an exam, students will be required to write a series of short reflection papers as well as a final thought piece. A course in the law of democracy is helpful but not required. Students who have not taken a course on the law of the political process will be expected to familiarize themselves with supplemental reference materials when necessary.
